Introduction

Welcome to my first blog and first of all lets get things straight the last thing I am is a word person so lets get that out of the way this blog will be more of a diary of my exploits out with the camera so here goes. Let me introduce myself my name is Wayne Slater I am a photographer with a love for capturing Landscape and Woodland scenes.

THE BEGINNING.

I suppose my introduction to photography began around 10 years ago when after playing around like a lot of people with the mobile phone taking pictures on local walks of anything that caught my eye not really thinking about composition and light not to mention the rule of thirds all of that was alien to me I was just enjoying what I was doing.

Most if not all of the pictures I took around that time were soon put in the phones trash can and later deleted never to be shown are let alone appear on social media.

FIRST CAMERA.

In early 2014 I took my first step and purchased my first so called "proper camera" the Nikon D3300 along with its kit lens the 18-55 and I loved it. That camera made me fall in love with photography and will always hold a special place with me it got me started on my journey into landscape and woodland photography, sadly it took a fall and that was the end of it but I was on my way. I was reading photography magazines buying books on the subject and watching YouTube videos just trying to get all the knowledge I could get to try to make me into a better photographer.

LANDSCAPE.

I have always liked to be walking be it out with my dogs in my local park are woodland are spending time trundling up and down dale in The Peak District National Park. So taking pictures of what the Peak District and its beautiful landscape was a offer I just couldn't refuse so it was pretty much inevitable I would start here.

Sunrise and Sunsets come rain are shine though admittedly I much prefer sunrise if given a choice you'll often find me up on a hillside taking in the grand vista with my camera and tripod my fingers crossed hoping for the that special bit of light that could make are break a half decent image but whatever the outcome its always been a pleasure to have been out whether on my lonesome are with my fellow photography friends.

WOODLAND.

Being out in the woodland always evokes childhood memories for me being brought up on a South Yorkshire council estate surrounded by some lovely little woods many a 6 week school holiday were spent climbing trees, swinging from a Tarzan rope and den making we spent the whole day exploring those woodlands. Nowadays things are a bit more calmer for me when I'm in these places enjoying the peace and tranquillity trying to create something from the chaos that woodland photography throws at you .Woodland photography is difficult it has its own challengers but it can be rewarding when eventually you piece together the jigsaw that confronts you but its certainly a challenge I enjoy .

Fiddlers Elbow. Peak District 01/01/2024

The first day of the New Year is one I definitely stay away from the popular locations, if you've ever been on are around Mam Torr, Stanage Edge are any other of the sunrise hotspots on a public holiday you will no what I mean and as someone who does like a bit of peace and quite while I'm out with the camera I make sure I try and avoid these places. There is certainly plenty of other places in and around the Peak District where you can keep away from the crowds.
